Honey Locust

Here is one of our story woods.  Honey Locust is scattered throughout the central plains regions from South Dakota to Pennsylvania and Maryland down to the southern states including Florida. Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma and Texas. It also grows in the Holy Land. 

There are two types of Honey Locust .. the thorny and the thornless.  The thorny Honey Locust is thought to be where  the "crown of thorns" came from that was used on the head of Jesus by the Roman soldiers. 

Here in the USA, the thorns can reach up to 12" long.  In the Middle East, they can be up to 18" long. 

Thinking of the Crown of Thorns that our Lord wore, knowing the size and ferociousness of the thorns themselves, holding this cross ... reminds me that He knows what my pain is and He knows what my suffering is and He knows that Resurrection comes!

As the Word declares in Psalm 30:5, "weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning".
