Kauri - Ancient

This is the oldest known workable wood on the planet.  It comes from New Zealand.  The trees were burried in a peat swamp and covered by glaciers during the Ice Age.

This the hardest of all known pine trees and the tree's stature is similar to the Giant Sequoia.

The picture doesn't do the wood justice.  The color is golden and there is depth to the wood. It shimmers.  It has a very tight grain without much curl or figure.  In the bright sunlight, it looks like this HoldingCross has been dipped in wild honey.   

It is one of the softest woods we use.  Isn't it funny.  We would probably pick a very hard wood to "save" for 50,000 years.  God's way aren't our ways.
