Handcrafted wooden crosses and ministry tools

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith;
and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.

The HoldingCross Story

But God ...

Carol had been ministering and serving as a Hospice and Nursing Home volunteer for over a decade. Jack had been making wooden crosses for many ministries (Cursillo, Kairos, Walk to Emmaus and others) for over a decade.

But God had a plan for a ministry and a cross … In the fall of 2001, Carol came home after one of her Hospice visits and shared with Jack a “need” to bring something to her patients … something that could be held in the hand, something natural, something that was meaningful and something that would bring comfort in a time of need. A traditionally shaped hand cross was not the answer as we recognized hands that did not work “right” any more. The shape needed to feel good in the palm of the hand.  The edges needed to be rounded and smooth. Even the thickness of the cross would make it easy to hold.  We focused on hands that were crippled with age or a debilitating disease that had resulted in a loss of grip and strength. And so, with a care-givers heart and the inspiration of the Spirit
The HoldingCross™ was born.

We soon learned that Holding the Cross was meaningful to more than just to the physically sick or infirm. Bringing comfort to many, The HoldingCross™ soon began to be used in ministries, primarily in the United States, such as Kairos Inside and Outside Prison Ministries, Cursillo, Walk to Emmaus, Via de Christo, Great Thanksgiving, Hospice care, nursing home visits and lay ministries, Halfway houses, children’s homes, church services, Pastoral and Chaplaincy ministries , Stephens Ministry, Sunday School classes, Vacation Bible School, Teen and Youth ministries, Discipleship and Homeless Ministries and a wide variety adult small group and prayer ministries.

The majority of our HoldingCrosses are purchased and used by individuals.  So many people receive The HoldingCross™ from a loved one or as a gift from someone they don't even know.  That personal reaching out to another, in Jesus name, strikes a cord with most.  It is very personal.  It is heart-felt.  Many that have received, in turn begin to give to others.  That care-giving cycle of reaching out to another is a simple discipleship model - one person reaching out to another in such a way that they in turn reach out to another.

The HoldingCross™ has also been used in fund raising activities by missionaries, pre-schools, churches and youth groups. The
HoldingCross™ is a simple tool in the hand, given in love as a gift.  There is no age limit to that!  Grandmothers wanting to encourage grandchildren.  A father gives The HoldingCross™ to his son or daughter going into the Armed Services to remind him of prayers from home. Hospitals and Funeral Homes are embracing The HoldingCross™ as a way of reaching out to those who need “something to hold on to”. Our crosses are used in over 18 denominations that we know of and have found their way to over 21 counties in the world!

We are a family business dedicated to serve the Lord through the ministry of the cross. We work with wood to make crosses. Using wood from around the world is a testimony to the abundance and beauty of God’s creation. We make all of our crosses in our Frisco, Texas workshop. Each individual piece tells a story of His majesty and reminds us of His promises to us. Our wooden crosses are cut, shaped, sanded and sculpted by our hands to bring out the natural beauty our Lord gave each piece. Each cross takes time. Every cross is prayed for. All of our crosses are crafted with care and love. Every cross will be unique and different because the wood, grain, color and contour are considered when working the wood to preserve the simple natural beauty of the piece.

As the Lord has provided, the ministry has grown. There are several others that have come (or been sent) to work along side us. Each has a heart for Christ. Each does their appointed task(s) as if to glorify God as an offering of thanksgiving. Each is part of our HoldingCross family - Christian brothers and sisters serving other Christians through this ministry of love.

Over the years, we have received several hundred stories of changed lives and the Body of Christ ministering to one another. You might take a look at our "Testimonials" page. Many customers send in wonderful God-stories, telling of their faith journey and sharing compliments regarding the fruit of our labor. These stories are but a sampling of the movement of the Holy Spirit testifying of Jesus who points to and glorifies the Father.

Blessed to be a Blessing,
Jack and Carol Scott
and
The HoldingCross family
